一.作及物动词
1. 在...之后仍然生存,从...中逃生
Only two passengers survived the air-crash.
这次飞机失事只有两名乘客幸免于死。
She was the only girl to survive the accident.
她是这次事故的惟一幸存者.
Few of the houses survived the war
没有一所房子经受住了战争的洗礼.
2. 比...活得长;丧失(配偶,亲人等)
She survived her husband by twenty years.
她丈夫去世后她又活了二十年。
Surprisingly,John survived his younger brother.
出乎意料的是约翰竟然活得比他弟弟还长.
注:survive 本身已表示“幸存,幸免于”,因而其后不能再加多余的in或from(正如enter the
building不加into)
二.作不及物动词,表示活下来,幸存;残留
Few survived after the flood.
洪水后极少有人生还。
Of the six people injured in the crash, only two survived.
因这次撞车事故受伤的六人中,只有两个人活下来了.
Of the wounded,only three survived.
伤员中只有三个活了下来.
